In this recurring feature, we get to know the member organizations of PAACT. This month, we have a Q&A with Kara Portnell, Executive Director, and Olivia Varnson, Operations Manager at Early Learning Property Management.
What inspired your organization to join the PAACT collaborative?
ELPM and PAACT share a common goal and commitment to address the issues facing early learning and are dedicated to making changes in the early learning arena. With this mission alignment, it made perfect sense to be a member of PAACT and harness the strengths, expertise, and synergy of the collaborative to make great impacts. PAACT is changing the landscape of early learning, and ELPM is honored to be a collaborative partner.
How does your work align with PAACT’s mission to strengthen the early learning landscape in Atlanta?
As an implementation partner of PAACT’s Repair and Renovation Grant program, ELPM helps early learning providers address major facility concerns ranging from roof replacements to playground upgrades. These construction projects have directly resulted in early learning providers opening additional classrooms, improving their Quality Rated status, and becoming more financially sustainable. Safe and high-quality learning environments are crucial as children begin their educational journey, and these projects help early educators strengthen their programs.
As a partner, what have you learned about early childhood that has touched, surprised or inspired you?
Every PAACT partnership meeting leaves us feeling empowered because the passion and commitment of our fellow collaborative members is evident. The meetings remind us that we can’t overcome the obstacles of access to early learning alone, but with our combined efforts, we can make a true and positive difference. It can’t be overstated how support for early learning results in a thriving community for people of all ages, and the ripple effects of successful early learning initiatives can lead to empowered caregivers, trauma-informed neighbors, successful small business owners, and so much more.
